Today marks the day of the final mass at Mount Mellary Abbey for the foreseeable future, as Monks vacate the Cistercian Abbey.
The monks initially suggested closing it in November following the decision to unite with Mellifont Abbey in Louth and Mount St. Joseph Abbey in Roscrea.
On Sunday, the group—known as the Abbey of Our Lady of Silence—will temporarily move to Roscrea.
Numerous people from across the country, many of whom were lamenting what they saw as the end of an era, made the journey during the week.
The Abbey of Our Lady of Silence states that they intend to stay in Roscrea for at least one year.
A decision regarding the future community's permanent location will be made during this time.
