Violent Scuffles at London Counter Demonstrations

Violent scuffles have broken out between police and counter-protestors in central London. The protestors have also turned on each other during the afternoon.

The large crowds that gathered at Parliament Square claimed they were there to protect statues from Black Lives Matter protesters.

Hundreds of mostly white men converged on the central London location after far-right groups, including Britain First, called on supporters to guard the monuments.

There were clashes with police in riot gear as crowds chanted far right slogans. However some of the group, who had been drinking alcohol, began to fight among themselves with All Lives Matter protestors and White Lives Matter protestors exchanging words.

Home Secretary Priti Patel tweeted her response saying: "Thoroughly unacceptable thuggery. Any perpetrators of violence or vandalism should expect to face the full force of the law. Violence towards our police officers will not be tolerated. Coronavirus remains a threat to us all. Go home to stop the spread of this virus & save lives".
