49 people dead are dead following Friday’s terrorist attack on a mosque in New Zealand.
A young girl’s among 12 people who remain critically ill in hospital.
Meanwhile, Auckland’s St Patrick’s Day parade’s been cancelled “as a mark of respect”.
Here at home, a vigil will take place in solidarity with the victims of the Christchurch attack.
The event gets underway at 1.00pm in John Roberts Square and will last 49 minutes.
Seamus O’Brien from ‘Waterford Against Racism’ is the organiser.
“It’ll be a gathering of local people, also including members of the local Muslim community, just to show that people coming together is a lot stronger than the hatred we’ve seen in Christchurch,” he says.
“I think it’s important that the people who’ve been directly targeted are at the front of this event.”
