Deliberations by a jury of 8 men and 4 women were paused Wednesday evening at 3:57pm in Waterford Circuit Criminal Court.

Their deliberations had reached 3 hours and 15 minutes at that stage.

The jury will recommence proceedings at 10:30 tomorrow morning, December 11th, as directed by Judge Eugene O’Kelly.

Allegations

A Waterford man, now in his 50s, is accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl on dates between 2004 and 2005.

In her sworn evidence during the trial, she claims she was 15 and 16 years of age at the time.

She is now aged in her 30s.

The accused has pleaded not guilty to all charges put before the court.

Reporting restrictions were ordered throughout the trial by Judge O’Kelly to protect the identity of the complainant.

Verdict

Yesterday afternoon, the court registrar asked the jury if they had reached a verdict on each of the six counts on which they all agree.

Following that, the response to that question was no.

The jury requested they break for the day and resume the following morning.

The jury will resit at 10.30 this morning with the intention of reaching a unanimous verdict.
