Ongoing resurfacing works on the N25 between Carroll’s Cross and the Carrick Road roundabout are disrupting traffic for an estimated 12,000 motorists each day.
Cathaoirleach of the Comeragh District, Councillor John O’Leary, said while the project is necessary and welcome, it is leading to significant delays and frustration for drivers. He has requested an update on when the works will be completed.
Responding at council level, the Director of Services for Roads, Gabriel Hynes, acknowledged the disruption but confirmed the scheme should be finished within the next three to four weeks. He added that contractors are making every effort to limit the impact on commuters.
When asked why the works are not being carried out at night, Councillor O’Leary explained that staffing for overnight shifts has not been available. He also noted the lack of street lighting on the route, which would make such works unsafe and more difficult to carry out.
