Uisce Éireann enters final phase of Lismore watermain upgrade as commissioning works continue
Uisce Éireann says it is now entering the final stages of a major upgrade to Lismore’s water network, with almost 2.5 kilometres of ageing watermains already replaced. The project, which will see close to 3 kilometres of pipework upgraded along Deerpark Road and Lismore Bridge, aims to reduce leakage and improve long‑term water security for homes and businesses in the area.
As commissioning works continue, customers in parts of Lismore may experience low pressure or temporary supply interruptions this Friday, 20 February, between 10am and 4pm. Supply will return gradually once the network has fully recharged.
Dave Murphy, Portfolio Manager at Uisce Éireann, said the upgrade represents a significant investment in the town’s infrastructure, reducing the risk of bursts and ensuring a more reliable supply. He thanked the local community for its patience as the project approaches completion.
The utility says the works form part of its national effort to reduce leakage across Ireland’s 65,000‑kilometre water network. Leakage levels are now at their lowest on record, falling from 49% in 2014 to 36% nationally.
