Update: Two Vietnamese men have appeared before a special sitting of Waterford District Court this morning.

Thuy Do who is in his late 40’s and 24-year-old Tayen Hoany Quang, were both living at the unit in the Waterford Business Park, were charged with possession and intent to supply.

The two men, who do not speak English, were remanded in custody to Cork prison, and will appear before Waterford District Court on Thursday next.

The arrests followed an intelligence-led operation, involving Gardaí from the Tramore Drugs Unit, assisted by the Armed Support Unit in Waterford.

Initial estimates put the seizure at €800,000 but this was amended following a full examination of the site.

It’s in connection with the seizure of 1.3-million-euro worth of cannabis.

The cultivation facility was discovered at Waterford Airport Business Park on Thursday by Gardai from the Tramore Drugs Unit and the Armed Support Unit.

The men – aged 32 and 43 – have been charged in connection with the find and are appearing in court around now. (9.30am)

The drugs were initially thought to be worth €800,000 however Gardai have confirmed that 1,644 cannabis plants were seized with an estimated street value in excess of €1.3m.
