Tributes to father of Waterford GAA star

Warm tributes have been paid to Brendan (Benny) Kiely, father of Waterford GAA star Michael, who died earlier today.
Benny, from Geal gCua, Kilrush, Dungarvan, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family.
His death notice reads that he was predeceased by his father Michael Kiely and parents-in-law Donie and Stella Whelan.
He is remembered as a "loving and devoted husband to Dolores and a proud and loving father to Jack and Michael. Forever missed by his heartbroken mother Mary, brothers Ian, Darragh, Mattie and sister Mary Kathryn, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, extended family, neighbours, colleagues and friends."
Benny will be reposing at The Kiely Funeral Home, Dungarvan on Monday evening, from 5 p.m. with Prayers at 7 p.m.
Requiem Mass at 11 a.m. on Tuesday morning, in St. Laurence's Church, Ballinroad.
Burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
Waterford's Division 1A National Hurling League clash with Tipperary has been postponed as a mark of respect.
The game was due to take place tomorrow (Sunday) at Azzurri Walsh Park.
In a statement, Waterford GAA extended condolences to Waterford Senior Hurler Michael Kiely on the death of his father Benny.
"Our thoughts are with all the Kiely family, especially Benny’s wife Dolores and sons Jack & Michael, and all involved with the Abbeyside Ballinacourty club. As a mark of respect, tomorrow’s Allianz League hurling fixture v Tipperary has been postponed. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam."
