Tributes have been paid to the young man who died following an assault in Tallow almost two weeks ago.

Cian Gallagher was originally from Knocklyon, Co Dublin, and was living on the Malahide Road in Dublin.

He had strong family ties to Brandon, Co Kerry.

The 26-year-old was working in construction and was in West Waterford working on a project.

He passed away on Thursday, November 10th, in Cork University Hospital.

He had been seriously injured in an assault that took place at about 12.35am on the morning of Wednesday, November 2nd.

A gentleman with 'great sense of humour'

Cian is survived by his parents, Mary and Brian, his partner Lana and her son Jordan, his brothers Alan, Bryan, and Shane, his many uncles, aunts and cousins, and was predeceased by his infant son Daniel.

Tributes have been pouring in online since news of his death broke on Thursday.

Cian has been described by many as 'a gentleman' with a 'great sense of humour', with others who knew him saying they will "never forget his positivity and energy."

The young man will repose in Lynch's Funeral Home, Castlegregory, Co Kerry, on Tuesday (15th), from 5pm to 8pm.

The funeral cortege will arrive at St Brendan's Church, Cloghane, on Wednesday at 1.15pm, where the Requiem Mass for Cian will take place at 1.3opm.

Interment afterwards in Cloghane New Cemetery.

Investigation still underway

In relation to the investigation into the incident in Tallow, Gardaí have yet to provide an official update.

A man in his 30s had been arrested shortly after the incident took place and appeared before a special sitting of Carrick-on-Suir district court on November 3rd.

Book of condolence in Tallow

In Tallow, a minute's silence was held on Sunday evening in memory of Cian by locals who gathered in the carpark of the Ramp Boreen.

A book of condolence will now open in Tallow Post Office on Monday morning and will be available for people to sign until Friday evening.
