Tributes paid to Kayaker who drowned off Waterford coast

The funeral has taken place of a kayaker who died following a drowning incident off the Waterford coast last week.

Francis Martin was laid to rest on Saturday. Mr. Martin's body was recovered on Tuesday, August 13th, after the alarm was raised near An Rinn the previous day.

He had left the Helvik Head area at 11:40 a.m. and had not been heard from for several hours.

The search operation involved rescue teams from Ardmore, Bonmahon, Dunmore East, Tramore, and Helvik, as well as Rescue 117 and the LE Aoibhinn.

Mr. Martin, originally from Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, was living in Belfast and was understood to be visiting the Waterford area at the time.

His funeral service took place in Belfast on Saturday last, with burial at the Lordship Cemetery, County Louth.

He is survived by his wife Miriam and his daughters Emma and Katie.
