Tributes are being paid to the teenage boy who was killed in a crash in South Kilkenny on Wednesday night.

Cian Mooney was a student at Kildalton College.

The 17-year-old had been a passenger in a car that crashed near Piltown on the Mullinavat to Templeorum Road.

He was from Moneenroe near Castlecomer in Kilkenny and had been studying at the agricultural college.

In a statement on their social media last night, Kildalton College expressed their sadness at Cian's "tragic and untimely" death.

They extended their sympathies to his parents, four sisters, friends and classmates.

His local hurling club said Cian "had a presence that would brighten your day and he'll be greatly missed by all."

Cian's funeral is set to take place at his home on Monday morning.

Meanwhile, two other young men who were taken to University Hospital Waterford following that crash, are now understood to be in a stable condition.

Gardaí are still appealing for anyone with information on the incident to come forward.
