The dereliction case taken against Tramore's Grand Hotel can only be classified as a failure according to a local councillor.
The claim comes after the case was taken against the owner of the hotel, Guo Quing Wu, earlier this year by Waterford City and County Council.
The courts ruled that works carried out there were enough to remove the derelict status from the property.
Councillor Éamon Quinlan believes the hotel is a wasted amenity in Tramore and that it will put off potential investors.
"Waterford City and County Council can put millions into the public realm in the heart of Tramore but so long as you have a large derelict hotel, that's a huge loss to the local economy. It puts off investors and entrepreneurs who think that a hotel in the heart of Tramore, especially in the Summer season, can't work," he said.
The hotel has been vacant since 2014 and, despite the council taking the owner to court, little has been done to bring it back into use.
Councillor Quinlan is calling for further action to be taken against the owner of the hotel and to pressure him into bringing it back to its former glory.
He says it should not be easy for owners of vacant business premises to sit on them long-term.
The case went on for two and a half years but it has been confirmed that the local authority has been awarded its legal costs, something Councillor Quinlan sees as a small victory.
