On Sunday the 2nd of June 2024, Tramore RNLI were tasked at approximately 3.41 pm to reports of a person in difficulty in a small inflatable dinghy off Tramore beach, near the Ladies slip.
The RNLI lifeboat was launched within 5 minutes with three volunteer crew onboard - Dave O’Hanlon (helm), Ronan McConnell, & Conor McCarthy.
The volunteer crew located the casualty just two minutes later.
The craft had drifted almost three hundred metres from the initial reported location.
The crew assisted the casualty onboard the lifeboat & returned to Tramore pier, where the casualty and craft had set out from two hours earlier.
Following further assessment at the lifeboat station the casualty was determined to be fatigued, cold but uninjured.
Helm Dave O’Hanlon said that “Unfortunately the wind turned & caught the casualty out. We would ask people to check the forecast & local conditions."
Dave commended the member of the public who called 999 & reported the incident.
