The Tramore community is grieving following the death of four-year-old Kobi Macharia Dooly in London.
Kobi's body was discovered at a property on Montague Road, Hackney after police responded to concerns about the welfare of a child on Wednesday.
Kobi had suffered knife injuries, and was taken to hospital, but later died from his injuries.
He is the son of Ben Dooly, originally from Tramore but who has lived in England for many years.
The Dooly family are well-known in Waterford and beyond through their business and sporting interests.
Kobi's mother, Keziah Macharia (41) was charged with his murder and appeared at Thames Magistrates' Court.
She was remanded in custody and is due to appear at London's Old Bailey on December 28th.
In a statement, the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs said it was "aware of the case and providing consular assistance".
"As with all consular cases, the department does not comment on the details of individual cases."
