A toddler has been transferred to Crumlin Children’s Hospital following a dog attack in Callan.

The boy, believed to 18 months old, was attacked by two dogs yesterday afternoon.

The attack took place in the garden of a residential property.

The incident occurred at approximately 3pm when the toddler is believed to have walked into the garden through a back door.

The back door is believed to have been closed, but not locked.

A family member is understood to have also sustained injuries to his hands in removing the dogs from the child.

The boy’s injuries are described as serious, but not life-threatening.

He was conveyed to Crumlin Children’s Hospital in the early hours of this morning, January 29th.

Gardaí have said that two dogs were removed from the house.

Arrangements are being made with local veterinary services for them to be euthanised.
