Three Waterford nominees have secured places on the shortlist across four categories in the 2025 Ocean Hero Awards.

The awards honour exceptional coastal protection efforts by volunteers nationwide.

The awards, run by An Taisce’s Clean Coasts Programme, recognise groups and individuals who champion coastal care.

This year’s shortlist includes Molly’s Tramore, nominated for the Community Champion Business Award; Tramore Eco Group, shortlisted in both the Nature Guardian and Campaign Ambassador categories; and Katriina Bent, who is nominated for the Leadership Award.

These Waterford nominees for the Ocean Hero Awards will compete against volunteers from across the country.

Winners in all nine categories will be revealed during a ceremony at the Gibson Hotel in Dublin on December 5th.

The event will also feature panel discussions on marine protection, community engagement, and Clean Coasts initiatives.

Clean Coasts Programme Manager Bronagh Moore said the awards celebrate the work carried out by more than 45,000 volunteers nationwide.

Adding that community groups are “the heartbeat” of the programme and play a crucial role in protecting Ireland’s coastline.

The ceremony will determine which of the shortlisted groups and individuals will receive the title of Ocean Hero for 2025.
