Waterford continues to expand its housing options through new affordable and cost rental schemes in Waterford that support a wide range of residents.
Three affordable and cost rental schemes in Waterford opened today, adding new housing options across the county. The projects include The Courtyard in Ballycarnane, Mountneil in Carrickphierish and Gort na hInse in Ballynaneashagh. Each scheme delivers new homes designed to support local demand for affordable and secure housing.
The Courtyard, Ballycarnane, Adds 25 Affordable Homes
The first opening took place at The Courtyard in Tramore. Waterford City and County Council offered the 25 homes for sale under the Affordable Purchase Scheme. R. McDonald & Sons built the A-rated two- and three-bedroom houses.
Eligible buyers can access up to €75,000 through a local authority equity stake. This support reduces the size of the mortgage required and helps more people buy a home in the county.
Minister of State John Cummins said the development shows how affordable purchase schemes “make home ownership possible for households who struggle in the private market.” He also noted the progress achieved in just over a year.
Mountneil Delivers Waterford’s First AHB-Led Cost Rental Scheme
At Mountneil in Carrickphierish, Tuath Housing and Waterford City and County Council delivered Waterford’s first cost rental scheme by an Approved Housing Body. The project includes 98 homes: 49 cost rental and 49 social units. The two phases completed in December 2024 and March 2025.
All homes meet high energy-efficiency standards. They feature A-rated construction, improved insulation and strong airtightness. These measures lower energy costs and increase comfort for residents.
More Housing Delivery Across the County
Gort na hInse, the third launched today, adds further affordable and cost rental scheme supply in Waterford. Together, the three developments show steady progress in local housing delivery.
Minister Cummins said meeting new residents highlighted the value of accessible housing supports. He noted that these schemes help families “secure stable homes and build long-term roots in their communities”.
