Thousands of people have taken to the streets of Waterford City to voice their concerns about the lack of 24/7 interventional cardiac care in the South East.
They marched from The Glen, down the Quay before finishing at the Mall to highlight the sub-standard practice of transferring cardiac patients by ambulance to Cork Hospital.
The current Cath Lab operates from 9.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday.
The event was organised by the Trades’ Council together with local health campaign groups.
Lorna Long from Waterford City told WLR News that it’s very frustrating.
“At the end of the day it’s in Dublin, it’s Galway, it’s in Cork and it’s in Limerick.
“Why not the South East where we have a bigger catchment than the lot of them, it’s very annoying.”
Bumped into @SheilaNunan and the Labour crew again at the march for #CardiacCare at #UHW in #Waterford just now. So important that we stand together to get a better deal for the South East. pic.twitter.com/CuZuyYwI0f
