Thirteen Waterford schools included in abuse scoping inquiry

The scoping inquiry report into sexual abuse in schools run by religious orders has identified 308 schools nationwide where alleged abuse took place.

Published yesterday, it includes over 2,400 allegations, involving 884 alleged abusers between the early 1960s and 90s, and stems from allegations of historic sexual abuse at Blackrock College in Dublin.

The report solely examined schools run by Roman Catholic religious institutions.

Thirteen schools in Waterford are included in the report  - with a total number of 64 allegations and a total number of 28 alleged abusers.

These include:

20 allegations against one alleged abuser at Scoil Lorcain Primary School, St John's Park

17 allegations against five in Waterpark College Secondary School

6 allegations against three in St Declan's De La Salle National School

5 allegations against four in Mount Sion CBS Primary School

3 allegations against five at Mount Mellerary College (now closed)

2 allegations against one at St Stephen's De La Salle National School

2 allegations against two at St Augustine's College Secondary School, Dungarvan

2 allegations against two at Mount Sion CBS Secondary School

2 allegations against one at Dungarvan CBS Primary School

2 allegations against one at Tramore CBS Primary School

One allegation against one at Dungarvan CBS Secondary School

One allegation against one at De La Salle College Secondary School

One allegation against one at St Angela's Secondary School

A Commission of Investigation has been announced, but a redress scheme recommended in the report has not been decided upon.

Victims' advocacy group Restore Together says such a scheme would be a recognition of the harm caused.
