Members of a County Waterford Tidy Towns group have been left shocked by the theft of numerous items.

The items which include various tools, strimming and blower equipment and a wheelbarrow, were stolen from a container used by Bonmahon Tidy Towns in the picturesque Copper Coast village.

It follows a similar incident this summer in which all of the equipment belonging to Stradbally Tidy Towns was stolen.

Chairman of the Bonmahon group Cathal Queally told WLR News that members have been left shocked and saddened by the incident.

"Everything was taken apart from a lawnmower - even our decorations which we hadn't hung up yet for Christmas. They cleared us out."

He added: "We worked hard for all that and funds are hard to come by."

The group has recently grown in size, and has attracted new members to add to the expertise of existing members, and performed well in this year's Tidy Towns competition.

Cathal suggested other Tidy Towns groups in the area should remain vigilant following this latest incident.

Gardaí are investigating and anyone with any information is asked to get in touch.

It comes as members of Bonmahon Tidy Towns were preparing for the switching on of Christmas lights in the village on Saturday and the unveiling of Santa's Grotto at The Engine House.
