A teenager has been stabbed in an aggravated burglary in Waterford.

The incident happed at about 12.30 last night.

A number of people are alleged to have broken into a house in Templar's Hall, carrying a knife.

One of the residents in the house - a male in his late teens - disturbed the intruders and received stab wounds.

The suspects fled on foot but Gardaí were able to respond quickly and four people were arrested nearby.

They're currently being detained at Waterford Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

They can be held for up to 24 hours before being charged or released.

The young man was taken to University Hospital Waterford but has since been discharged.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who witnessed anything in the area of Templar's Hall, or who may have CCTV from the area, to contact them.
