Taoiseach to lead Project Ireland 2040 regional event in Waterford today.

The Taoiseach, will be joined by a number of Government Ministers in Waterford today for the first in a series of events to discuss Project Ireland 2040.

Leo Varadkar, will be joined by Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe, the Minister of State for Higher Education, Mary Mitchell O'Connor and the Minister of State for Training, Skills, Innovation and Research, John Halligan, to present Project Ireland 2040 to students and other guests at the WIT Arena, in Carriganore at 3pm this afternoon.

The North Quays project in Waterford was one which would benefit from the 2 billion euro urban redevelopment fund announced as part of the government's Ireland 2040 plan.

A national rural development fund of 1 billion for Ireland's towns and villages was also announced as well as capital spending to support the start-up for technological universities, with a particular mention of a TU for the South East

A major milestone in the North Quays redevelopment project in Waterford was reached yesterday, after it was revealed that that no valid appeals were lodged against the planning process.

It paves the way for the 350 million euro Fawaz Hokair Group project to begin in the first quarter of 2019.

The Taoiseach and Finance Minister will meet with representatives of the Saudi investors backing the landmark project during their visit to Waterford today.
