An Taoiseach Micheal Martin has committed to engaging with the Transport Minister on the new investment proposal for Waterford Airport.
He was responding to a question from Sinn Féin TD David Cullinane in the Dáil today.
As reported on WLR, a new proposal will be presented to councillors next week involving a fresh American investor.
Deputy Cullinane asked the Taoiseach if he was aware of the new investor “prepared to put €30m on the table”.
“It has to be approved by the local authority but as I understand, it also has to be approved by government and by the line minister,” he said.
He asked if the Taoiseach had been briefed on the proposal and if the government would be “signing off on it if it comes across your desk”.
‘Significant development’
In response, An Taoiseach said the minister has been briefed and said he would be engaging on what the current situation is.
With the local authority involved, he added the proposal “may or may not” require their line minister to approve it also .
“It’s a very significant development, a new injection of private capital, and certainly I will talk to the Minister for Transport.”
