Tallow residents concerned over anti-social behaviour

Tallow residents concerned over anti-social behaviour

Locals in Tallow have voiced their concerns regarding recent anti-social behavior.

That's the view of local Councillor John Pratt, who was speaking of recent acts of criminal damage.

Several lighting fixtures were stolen from the Bride Valley Stores in the town, a prominent landmark in the locality, sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Cllr. Pratt spoke to WLR in recent days, confirming Gardaí are investigating the incident.

"As a community, we need to stick together, keeping an eye out to see if we can spot anything unusual. Obviously, this happened in the dead of night. There definitely is antisocial behavior, but unfortunately, that antisocial behavior is in all our small towns and villages at the moment.

"They took the solar lights and the wires that were attached to them. It's an absolutely despicable act. It really used to show up the building, the building got painted up as well.

"I don't want to be here saying the issue is isolated to Tallow because it's not".

Separate incidents

In a separate incident in Cappoquin earlier this month, windows were smashed at the Cappoquin Railway Football Club, leading to the community coming together to repair the facility.

On Friday, May 31st, the front window of the Post Office on Main Street was also smashed.

Councillor Pratt continued, "It's Tallow, Lismore, Cappoquin, and I am very, very aware of a lot of this antisocial behavior.

"It seems to be happening more often if I'm honest with you. I'm not scaremongering here, but there seems to be a lot of this happening in the rural areas.

"As people know, we also had the incident in Cappoquin with the clubhouse which is evidence of more anti-social behavior in West Waterford.

"There's also been some break-ins in the localities as well, and it seems to be happening especially over the last few weeks."
