Storm Eunice: Latest updates from across Waterford

A Status Red weather warning for wind has now been lifted for Waterford, as Storm Eunice has passed.

The alert had come into effect locally at 7am and remained in place until 11am.

Met Éireann warned that winds in excess of 80kmph and gusts of more than 130kmph were to be expected.

The storm has left a lot of debris and damage in her wake.

Roads:

Traffic disruption on The Quay, Waterford due to falling slates. Emergency Services are at the scene. Please avoid the area.

**With red alert lifted at 11am, crews will be working on clearing the following as soon as possible: 

  • Fallen tree just outside Kill Village on Bunmahon Road - road is blocked
  • Fallen tree in Whitethorn Avenue outside Grantstown Village
  • Fallen tree along the Wood Road R665 near Clonmel
  • Fallen tree reported on N25 -  blocking the inside lane of the Climbing Lane just after the turn off for Kilmacthomas heading in the Waterford direction.
  • Fallen tree on L-2024 Toor North before forest entrance on left
  • Fallen tree reported - blocking the road on the bad hairpin turn coming from Carrick on Suir towards Crehana school
  • Fallen tree down blocking the road on the old Kilmeaden road just past entrance to Mount Congreve.
  • Fallen tree reported at Mahon Bridge, towards Briska
  • Tree branch overhanging at O'Keefe's Cross, at the Six Cross Roads - not blocking the road but caution is advised
  • Fallen tree at Kilcohan Road by Waterford Greyhound Stadium
  • Fallen tree at Earslcourt, Waterford
  • Fallen tree blocking half the road at Viewmount
  • Fallen Tree Pebble Beach Tramore L4162 just off Lower Branch Rd
  • Fallen tree at Newtown Woods Rd, L8089 Tramore
  • Fallen tree at Barr an Stuac Old Parish
  • Tree down at Leoville on Dunmore Road blocking estate
  • Fallen tree reported at Blacknock, Kilmeaden, Co. Waterford
  • Fallen tree at the Park Hotel in Dungarvan, just at the entrance.
  • Fallen tree at Tourin Hall, Killahalla  Road is impassable.
  • Fallen Tree on the N25 at Kiely's Cross
  • Fallen Tree reported at Sleady, Ballinamult
  • Fallen tree has been reported along the L-3011 Ballinroad.
  • Fallen trees on the Cheekpoint Road L-4082 near the School
  • Large tree blocking most of the road near Trihy's Sawmills in Grange.
  • A tree is blocking the Bog Road from Dungarvan to Aglish, about one mile outside Dungarvan.
  • Reports of tree down at Carriglea Road heading for West Waterford Golf Club.
  • N25 New Ross Bypass (including Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Bridge) has now reopened (12noon).
  • The Prom in Tramore is closed as coastal flooding is expected.
  • Car parks along the Quay in Dungarvan are closed

Services:

  • Passage East Ferry currently not sailing.
  • WIT Vaccination Centre - anyone with an appointment between 10am and 12noon is asked to attend in the afternoon instead.
  • Irish Rail - reporting no disruption to services to/from Waterford
  • Bus Éireann - services suspended in Waterford between 1am and 1pm on Friday (18th)
  • JJ Kavanagh & Sons - Waterford services suspended until 9am, with the situation to be reviewed then
  • Local Link Bus Service: 361 Ardmore Dungarvan ~ First bus will leave Ardmore @11.00am; 363 Tallow Dungarvan ~ First bus will leave Tallow @11.00am; 363 Dungarvan Tallow ~ First bus will leave Dungarvan @11.05am; 364 Tallow Fermoy ~ First bus will leave Tallow @11.00am; 367 Tramore to Dungarvan ~ First bus will leave Tramore @ 11.30am; 367 Dungarvan to Waterford, no morning service ~First bus will leave Dungarvan @13.30.
  • Bank of Ireland - will open from 1pm in Waterford
  • AIB - Waterford branches will open from 1pm on Friday
  • Civic amenities - sites at Dungarvan and Kilbarry to remain closed until 2pm on Friday
  • Courts - no court sittings at the Courthouse, Catherine Street, Waterford City. District court to resume on Monday (21st) and Waterford Circuit Court to resume on Tuesday (22nd). Courthouse will be closed for business all day Friday.
  • Deise Day Centre in Mitchell Street, Dungarvan will be closed on Friday, and Meals on Wheels suspended today too.
  • Brothers of Charity Day services in Waterford City and County will be closed until 12 noon Friday
  • Trade Electric store in Waterford to remain closed until 11am
  • Office Master to remain closed in Waterford until 11.30am
  • Driving tests - the RSA have cancelled their 9.15 / 10.12 / 11.24 tests today
  • Gas Networks Ireland temporarily suspends all works, except for emergency repairs, in Waterford

Power:

  • Outage in Kilcarragh, Passage East, affecting 685 customers. Estimated restore time 2.30pm.
  • Outage in Lisaviron, Bunmahon, affecting 847 customers. Estimated restore time 2.30pm.
  • Outage in the Newtown/Springmount area of Waterford, north of Youghal, affecting 482 customers. Estimated restore time of 12.45pm.
  • Outage in Clonea Power affecting 77 customers. Estimated restore time of 2.30pm.
  • Outage near Ballinamona, West Waterford affecting 344 customers. Estimated restore time is 6pm.
  • Outage in Kilmacthomas affecting 199 customers. Estimated restore time 2.30pm.
  • Outage in the Fenor area outside Tramore affecting 54 customers. Estimated restore time is 2.30pm.

Education:

  • Department of Education has announced the closure of all schools and education facilities in Waterford as a result of the red weather warning
  • Waterford Institute of Technology - WIT buildings will not be open for duration of the status red wind warning for Waterford and is expected to re-open at midday on Friday. The institute will keep the situation under review.

With severe winds predicted, Waterford City and County Council advises the public to:

·       Stay away from all coastal areas for the duration of the Met Éireann warnings

  • All road users should be aware of the extremely dangerous and destructive travelling conditions, and are advised to stay indoors during those hours, when fallen trees, dangerous driving conditions and damaged power lines are expected.
  • As conditions will vary throughout the event, people need to take account of the local conditions and advice from their Local Authority.
  • The public are warned electricity wires are always live, never approach. If you see fallen or damaged wires, keep clear and phone ESB Networks immediately on 1800 372 999
  • Follow all public safety advice.
