The RNLI and the Coast Guard are appealing to people to stay out of danger as Storm Atiyah hits today.

Met Éireann’s issued a status red wind warning for Kerry to come into effect at 4pm.

The forecaster advising extreme caution near the coast and on high ground due to a combination of high seas and strong gusts.

A status orange wind warning is now in place in other western coastal counties.

While there’s a status yellow wind warning insitu for Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Roscommon, Tipperary and Waterford until 6am tomorrow morning.

Winds will reach speeds between 50 and 65km/h with gusts between 90 and 110km/h.
