Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow snow and ice warning for Waterford, with Storm Goretti set to bring worsening weather conditions on Thursday afternoon.
The Waterford snow and ice warning will come into effect at midday on Thursday, January 8th, and remain in place until 8pm.
Forecasters say rain will turn to sleet and snow in places, particularly on higher ground, with snow accumulations possible.
The national weather service has warned of hazardous travelling conditions, along with poor visibility, spot flooding, and the risk of icy patches developing as temperatures fall.
Authorities are urging motorists and pedestrians in Waterford to exercise caution, particularly on untreated roads and elevated routes, where conditions may deteriorate rapidly during the afternoon and early evening.
Met Éireann has advised people to stay up to date with the latest forecasts and warnings as Storm Goretti moves through the region, with further updates possible if conditions worsen.
The Waterford snow and ice warning also applies to Cork, Kerry and Wexford.
Waterford City and County Council has reminded farmers of restrictions on organic fertiliser (e.g. soiled water) spreading within 48 hours of heavy rain.
