A Status Yellow rain warning Waterford remained active overnight, and will end at 9am this morning after intense rainfall across the county. Met Éireann estimated rainfall totals of 30 to 50 millimetres, causing surface flooding and difficult travel conditions.
The Status Yellow rain warning Waterford came into effect at 2pm yesterday and remained in place through the night. Heavy rain fell for several hours, and low-lying areas experienced excess surface water.
Waterford City and County Council urged road users to take strong precautions during the alert. Director of Services for Roads, Gabriel Hynes, advised motorists to slow down, allow extra time for journeys, and avoid flooded roads. He warned drivers not to attempt to pass through floodwater under any circumstances.
The council expects some residual surface water during the morning, and drivers should remain alert during peak travel times.
