Locals in St. John's Park gathered at the Butler Community Centre today to remember local lady Peg Tebay.
A memorial bench was unveiled in the Hive Garden in honour of Peg, who died in August 2022, and her many contributions to the Waterford community.
Manager of the Butler Community Centre, Anne Grogan, described Peg as "a great community woman" who was "ahead of her time in many ways".
"She was a lady who was famous for many generous acts, her participation on a number of boards including the Butler Community Centre which she helped raise money to build. She was Chairperson of the Sacred Heart Active Retirement and a founder of the Golden Years Festival, a national festival held here in Waterford."
Anne added: "She was a community activist who was ahead of her time in many ways. She was a mother to ten children but also a mother to many others in terms of her community work. She really was a remarkable woman and that's why we wanted to celebrate her memory today."
