South Korea's President has declared emergency martial law in the country.
He accused the opposition of anti-state activities and sympathising with North Korea.
President Yoon Suk Yeol announced the move in a television address and said it is critical for defending the country's constitutional order.
The surprise move comes as Mr Yoon's People Power Party and the main opposition Democratic Party continue to bicker over next year's budget bill.
