Some restrictions loosened, others remain as Tánaiste warns "Pandemic isn't over yet"

The Government has announced the next phase of reopening. From October 22nd, some restrictions are to be loosened, while others including the use of Covid vaccine certificates, will remain in place.

Taoiseach Michéal Martin, Tánaiste Leo Varadkar and Green Party Leader Eamon Ryan gave a press conference at 12.30pm today and announced the following measures:

The main decisions on restrictions made today

  • Nightclubs can reopen but with restrictions in place (such as showing covid certs).
  • For indoor live music, drama, live entertainment and sporting events audience/spectators should be fully seated. (Standing permitted at your seat).
  • Normal trading hours to resume for in pubs, restaurants and wider hospitality.
  • Mask wearing and social distancing to continue until February.
  • Vaccine boosters for people over 60 will commence
  • Sectors due to reopen on October 22nd will have to ensure customers have a valid Covid pass.
  • Table service only, maximum of 10 adults per table, 15 with children.
  • No fixed capacity for outdoor events.
  • Religious services and weddings will not have capacity limits, other public guidelines remain in place.
  • There will be an “enhanced role” for antigen testing.
  • Testing to resume for fully vaccinated people who are close contacts, but through antigen testing.
