The seas off Waterford and South Wexford are to be sites for the next phase of offshore wind farms.

The locations were revealed in recent days as the country’s first Designated Maritime Area Plan was announced.

Four southern sites have been designated for the development of offshore wind energy, with two off the coast of Waterford.

Site A (Tonn Nua) and Site B (Lí Ban) are located south of Dunmore East.

The wind energy sector has been awaiting the announcement of the South Coast Designated Maritime Area Plan for the past two years - and all future wind energy projects will have to be located within areas selected by the Government.

The South Coast Designated Maritime Area Plan will now go to public consultation for a six-week period before being brought before the Oireachtas for approval.

Full details on the plan are available here
