A planning application has been submitted to repurpose one of Waterford's most well-known nightclub buildings into student accommodation.

The Causeway Group has sought permission to turn Sinnott's bar and nightclub in Waterford into student accommodation.

The historic building, which was previously named Muldoon's Late Bar, Peig's Bar, and Oxygen Niteclub was sold in 2005 for in excess of €10 million.

Permission has been requested to demolish the vacant buildings at 29 and 30 John Street and to construct new three-storey buildings in their place.

These would then be amalgamated with the existing Sinnott's property which overlaps Manor Street and John Street.

The application proposes 7 residential student units on the ground floor, 19 units on the 1st floor, and 12 units on the top floor.

In addition to residential units, the application proposes communal facilities including dining rooms, a games room, a gym, and social areas.

Accompanying the planning application is a request to change the property use from licensed premises to student accommodation.

A decision is expected on the development by August 24th.
