Sinn Féin has criticised the government over continued delays in providing 24/7 cardiac care at University Hospital Waterford.
The party’s Waterford TDs, David Cullinane and Conor D. McGuinness, raised concerns following a parliamentary question to the Minister for Health, Jennifer Carroll McNeil .
The Minister’s reply offered no timeline or clear commitment, stating only that work to expand cardiology services is “ongoing” and requires “further clinical engagement” and approvals.
Conor D. McGuinness said the response provides no certainty or urgency. He warned that delays deepen health inequalities in Waterford and the wider South East.
He added that successive governments allowed the lack of 24/7 cardiac services to continue, despite clear clinical need.
David Cullinane highlighted that similar evasive responses have been issued for years. He said clinicians and the community support a fully operational 24/7 service.
Both TDs said they will continue to campaign for the service until it is delivered, stressing the importance of properly resourced cardiac care at University Hospital Waterford.
