Waterford will be well represented abroad for St. Patrick’s Weekend. Several TD’s and local representatives are visiting different parts of the globe.

Waterford TD John Cummins is in Thailand and the Philippines to meet with several dignitaries. Mary Butler also visited Denmark and Sweden recent days.

A delegation from Waterford City and County Council including Jason Murphy have been invited by the state of Massachusetts to attend the St Patrick’s Day festivities in Boston.

Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs & Trade; Minister for Defence Simon Harris is visiting Philadelphia and New York, while Micháel Martin visited the White House this week where he met US President Donald Trump. He’s also visiting Texas.

It is not yet known the cost of the trips to the exchequer, where over €175,000 was spent on St. Patrick’s Day trips in 2022, according to the Journal.ie.

Separately, the New York St. Patrick’s Day parade will also have Waterford representation. Mags O’Connor, a member of the Thomas Francis Meagher Tricolour Committee is in attendance in the Big Apple to take part in the festivities.

Ms. O’Connor was invited over by the 69th regiment of the American Army, founded by Thomas Francis Meagher who first flew the Tricolour from thirty-three the Mall in Waterford City in 1848.
