SETU law student Natalia Polczner received the first-ever Halley Award for excellence in Tort law. Local solicitor firm M.M. Halley and Son presented the award during Law Week 2026 at SETU’s College Street Campus.

The award recognises students who achieve outstanding results in Tort, the cornerstone of Irish Common Law on negligence. This year, Kilkenny native Polczner impressed faculty and legal professionals with her exceptional understanding of the subject.

Law Week

Law Week provides students with practical insights into the legal profession. During the event, Emmet Halley of M.M. Halley and Son spoke about the evolving field of medical negligence. He explained how solicitors handle complex and sensitive cases in Irish courts.

In addition, students engaged directly with professionals from across the South East. As a result, they could connect classroom learning to real-world practice.

Faculty Support Builds Graduate Skills

SETU’s Law Faculty organised the programme to help students develop both academic knowledge and practical skills. They also ensured students leave with the confidence needed to enter the legal profession.

By hosting the Halley Award and Law Week talks, the university recognises academic excellence and encourages students to explore emerging legal challenges.

Promoting Excellence in Irish Law

The inaugural Halley Award highlights SETU’s commitment to fostering talent in key areas of law. Meanwhile, Law Week gives students exposure to industry trends and professional expectations. Together, these initiatives prepare graduates to succeed in the Irish legal sector.
