The ceremonies mark a proud moment for students, staff, and families as the University recognises years of academic dedication and achievement.

SETU President Commends Graduates’ Achievements

Addressing the graduating classes in Waterford, Professor Veronica Campbell, President of SETU, praised students for their resilience, commitment, and leadership throughout their studies.

“SETU’s conferring ceremonies are a celebration of achievement and a reflection of the transformative power of education. Our graduates embody the best of SETU people of knowledge, character, and compassion,” Prof. Campbell said.

She also thanked families and staff for their support, highlighting the shared commitment that underpins every graduate’s success.

Record Number of PhDs and Honorary Doctorates

This year, SETU will confer a record 43 PhD graduands, the highest number in the University’s history. The ceremonies will also feature two honorary doctorates celebrating leadership and service.

Athletics legend John Treacy will be honoured for his outstanding contributions to sport and public service, while Elizabeth Riordan-Coppin will receive recognition for her lifelong advocacy for human rights and social justice.

Waterford at the Heart of SETU’s Growth

The Waterford campus continues to lead in educational innovation, with significant developments in pharmacy and veterinary medicine during 2025.

SETU recently announced the Veterinary Places Activation Programme (VPAP), a capital-supported initiative that will establish a new veterinary school at SETU Waterford, marking a milestone for higher education in the southeast.

The University’s Department of Pharmacy also achieved official accreditation for its new five-year Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) programme, approved by the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI).

These advancements reflect SETU’s growing strength in health and professional education, preparing future graduates to meet critical workforce needs both regionally and nationally.

A Bright Future for SETU Graduates

As SETU celebrates another landmark year in Waterford, the University continues to expand its academic and research portfolio, fostering innovation and opportunity for students across the southeast.

Prof. Campbell concluded by encouraging graduates to carry SETU’s values of empathy, leadership, and service into the next chapter of their lives, shaping a stronger, more inclusive Ireland.
