A Waterford biopharmaceutical company has confirmed that it is responding to a 2nd confirmed case of Covid-19 among its Waterford employees.
Sanofi has issued a statement this afternoon saying "the individual involved is currently self-isolating at home" and that their "primary focus is on supporting them".
They added that a small number of other members of their site team are being tested this weekend on a precautionary basis while one has already received a negative test result.
On Thursday, Sanofi confirmed the first case at their plant on the Old Kilmeaden Road.
They employ over 700 staff locally who supply a range of therapies - many for the treatment of rare diseases - to patients in more than 100 countries.
The statement went on to say that they "also continue to protect the health and wellbeing of the remainder of our team and have taken a range of steps since early March to safeguard employees.
"Sanofi is committed to continuing to make every effort to protect its team while also maintaining critical operations at Waterford, from where vital treatments are supplied to patients worldwide."
