Planning permission has been granted by Waterford City and County Council for an extension to a pharmaceutical plant in Waterford City.
Genzyme Ireland Ltd (T/A Sanofi) has been granted conditional permission for a single storey extension to the existing plant area on the north of the existing site at the IDA Industrial Park, Old Kilmeaden Road.
The planning application which was submitted includes all associated site works, drainage, alterations to existing site levels and ancillary site development works to accommodate the above works.
Local Fianna Fáil Councillor Eamon Quinlan described the proposed development as "yet another strong sign of Waterford's ability to not only attract large scale investment, but to nurture relationships with large employers over the years".
"This often sees such firms doubling down on Waterford so to speak. That is for everyone's benefit and we need to champion this to all prospective investors that look at Waterford," he said.
"Our stakeholders are often long term stakeholders and that's because Waterford is a good place to do business. Sanofi has been employing a large number of locals for many years and this further investment into their Waterford operations will hopefully yield a larger footprint and employability for more Waterford workers."
