The Health Minister says he'll meet the group who are fundraising to build a new Sacred Heart Centre in Waterford City.

The unit on Lady's Lane supports families of children who have varying degrees of intellectual and physical disabilities.

It was built in 1974 and Touching Hearts, the organisation established to support the building of a new centre, says it's not fit for purpose.

Waterford Senator Paudie Coffey brought up the issue with Simon Harris during a discussion in the Seanad on the HSE Capital Plan.

Minister Harris says he plans to meet Touching Hearts in the coming weeks:

"I'd be very happy to meet with that group with the Senator and see if we can progress it. I'm very much in admiration of the work they're doing in terms of funding for a new facility on the grounds of St Otteran's Hospital, and I'd be delighted to convene a meeting for the Senator with that group in the coming weeks and see if we can work together on it."
