Work is progressing on building apartments on a site in Ballybeg which has been an eyesore for years.
The former Ryan's Bar in Ballybeg was destroyed by a fire in 2011 and has remained derelict since.
The site is being developed by Sayvale, a property development group who specialise in social and affordable housing, and Walsh Builders.
The managing director of Sayvale is Austin Currie. He revealed they are going to apply for permission to build another 40 or so apartments beside the 40 currently being constructed.#
"It's all set in Ballybeg, it's 46 units, we've gone to ground on the first phase of 46 units, it's all going to be sold to the council, which is all fine, and it's all for social housing around Ballybeg, but I think what's more important is that there'll be a second phase. Hopefully, I'll go into planning for a second phase, and there'll be a lot of discussions with local people and with the council as to what the second phase looks like."
"I'm very keen to try and get the views of the community to try and develop that second phase, because Ballybeg's changing, and the people profile is older, so I'm very keen to speak to, Waterford City and County Council. I'm trying to go for planning permission, but only after speaking to people with regards to what they want, so I'll be going in for planning in the not-too-distant future to try and develop a second phase."
