Cllr Seamus Ryan has hit out at Transport for Ireland and the government for its failure to deliver additional bus routes to Waterford City.
Cllr. Ryan has been campaigning for additional bus routes to serve those areas in Waterford City that do not have a bus service at the moment.
"Growing areas in Waterford such as Kilbarry, Foxwood, Carriganard as well as a direct route from Paddy Browns Road to University Hospital Waterford are badly needed by commuters in Waterford."
The licensing of new bus routes is a matter for the National Transport Authority. In the new model, Bus Eireann Waterford are simply contracted to the NTA for the provision of Public Service Obligation (PSO) services in Waterford.
“We're seeing on a daily basis a great increase in traffic on our city roads. We need to provide a proper, well-financed, affordable, public city bus service that will give people the option to leave the car behind. I believe if we are serious about reducing the amount of cars on our roads and if we are serious about encouraging alternative means of transport in Waterford we most dramatically invest in the availability of public transport making it attractive and affordable for people to use."
