Ruth Purcell Healy deemed fit to attend court for the serving of the Book of Evidence

For the first time in four months, 37-year-old Ruth Purcell Healy has appeared before Waterford District Court in relation to the murder of her son, Matthew Healy (6).

Ms. Purcell Healy appeared yesterday via videolink before Judge John Cheatle, following a period of time during which she has been receiving treatment at the Central Mental Hospital.

Up to now, it was not clear whether Ms. Purcell Healy would be fit to appear before the courts, however, Mr. Ken Cunningham, solicitor for the defense told the court she is now considered fit to attend court.

Ruth Purcell Healy, with an address at Bishop's Field, Williamstown in Waterford City was charged with her son's murder on February 13, 2024.

This follows the discovery of Matthew, unresponsive near Rathmoylan Cove in Dunmore East.

Ms. Purcell Healy will attend court tomorrow, June 20 for presentation of the Book of Evidence.
