Notice is given that Waterford City and County Council will close the following public roads to through traffic on Saturday, 21st June and Sunday, 22nd June 2025, during the times specified below, to facilitate the holding of the Waterford Viking Marathon 2025.

? Roads to be Closed

From Saturday, 21st June to Sunday, 22nd June:

  • O’Connell Street (L1502) – From Vulcan Street to Thomas Hill/Hanover Street

Sunday, 22nd June Only:

  • The Mall (R680)

  • Bridge Street (R686)

  • Bilberry Road (L1501)

  • Grattan Quay (L1000)

  • Suir Street (L1500)

  • Mary Street (L90296)

  • Dyehouse Lane (L15002)

  • Penrose Lane (L90015) – Anne Street to the Quay

  • Thomas Street (L5505) – Anne Street to the Quay

  • Thomas Hill (L15021) – Meeting House Lane to the Quay

  • Lissahane (L4015) – From Carroll’s Cross to Greenway Crossing

  • Ardeenloun Crossing (L8019) – From N25 Cork Road to Greenway Crossing

  • Carrickanure Road (L8017) – Cork Road to Greenway Crossing


? Outbound Lane Closures – Waterford City

Outbound Lane on the Quay from Tower Hotel to Rice Bridge (R680):

  • Parade Quay

  • Custom House Quay

  • Coal Quay

  • Meagher’s Quay

  • Merchants Quay

Outbound Lanes from Rice Bridge (R680) in the direction of the N25:

  • From Sallypark (R448) to Newrath Roundabout

  • From Newrath Roundabout via R861 to Roundabout No. 12 at Grannagh and onto the N25


? Outbound Lane Closures – County Kilkenny

The following roads in County Kilkenny will be subject to outbound lane closures:

  • R448 – From Sallypark (County Bounds) to Newrath Roundabout

  • R861 – From Newrath Roundabout to Roundabout No. 12 at Grannagh and onto the N25 westbound

  • Roundabout No. 12 (M9/N24/N25 at Grannagh)

  • N25 at the Toll Plaza

  • The Glen (L1503) – Detours will be in place

In County Kilkenny:

  • R448/R861 – Newrath Roundabout

Motorists are advised to plan alternative routes and follow posted detours. Waterford City & County Council apologises for any inconvenience caused during these essential closures to facilitate a major sporting event in the city.
