The Chairman of a Waterford community action group says there isn’t a person in their area who thinks an industrial wind farm is a good idea.

Innogy Renewables plans to apply to An Bord Pleanala this Spring to erect up to 25 wind turbines along the Waterford/Cork border.

Each will be up to 150 metres in height.

Paddy Massey from Blackwater Wind Aware says he wants a moratorium on on-shore wind farms to be put in place, “until proper planning guidelines are put in place.”

“Ultimately the government need to look at the long term renewable energy policy and come up with something that’s fit for purpose,” he says, “a large percentage of the voting population in rural Ireland are not being listened to.”

Managing Director of Innogy Renewables, Cathal Hennessy, who are behind the development, says it’s in the development stage.

“We’re designing the project, we’re carrying out environmental studies – the site has not yet been submitted for planning.”
