Renowned Waterford artist Pat Murphy has died.
It's believed he passed away following an illness.
Originally from Ferrybank, Pat's work can be found in public collections across the country and in private collections in Ireland and abroad.
Ollie Breslin, Coordinator of Imagine Arts Festival and Artistic Director of Waterford Youth Arts, knew Pat well.
He says it's the "end of an era":
"Pat has been around for a long time in Waterford and he's probably Waterford's most famous visual artist. It's really hard to believe that he's gone. We all send our condolences to his family, particularly to his wife Ger, and to the community of Old Parish. He'd be well-known in Old Parish in Dungarvan."
He says Pat was a major figure in Irish art:
"I remember he illustrated books for Eddie Wymberry going way back. He had some very interesting exhibitions; one of the last ones he had was about his trip to Cuba. He's definitely a major figure in Irish art and he was a great character, really funny, a really interesting man. He's going to be really sadly missed."
