The urgent need for drainage at Helvick Harbour in West Waterford has again been highlighted.
The issue has been raised at numerous meetings of Waterford City and County Council in recent months - with the impact on fisheries and the local RNLI rescue service being pointed out.
Speaking in the Dáil last week, Waterford Independent TD Matt Shanahan also called for action on the issue and pointed out that boats often can't be used because of silting of the harbour.
"We've been asking for dredging of the harbour for more than five years," he said.
"The local authority has no money to process foreshore licenses - it's something the Department needs to take action on."
