A status red wind warning has been extended to include Waterford and the entire country.

Storm Éowyn is expected to track towards Ireland in the early hours of Friday morning. The warning is valid from 02:00 am Friday 24/01/2025 to 10:00 am Friday 24/01/2025.

Met Éireann is warning of Gale to storm force southerly winds becoming westerly, which will bring severe damaging, and extremely destructive gusts in excess of 130km/h.

Schools and creches in counties affected by a Status Red wind warning will close for the duration of the alert.

Met Éireann is also warning of the following impacts:

• Danger to life
• Extremely dangerous travelling conditions
• Unsafe working conditions
• Disruption and cancellations to transport
• Many fallen trees
• Significant and widespread power outages
• Impacts to communications networks
• Cancellation of events
• Structural damage
• Wave overtopping
• Coastal flooding in low-lying and exposed areas
