
There was huge success in the Déise this weekend as more than 4,500 runners took part in this year’s WLR Waterford Viking full, half and quarter marathons.
Many families took part across the weekend with a children’s run on Saturday the 21st of June launching this year’s experience before the main event on Sunday.
Ireland’s first ever disability friendly run kicked off the final day of action.
Starting in the Mall in Waterford City, WLR’s The Big Breakfast Blaa presenter Oliver Carroll was joined by Mayor of Waterford City and County Council, Jason Murphy to officially start the 2025 race at 9am.
Micheal Brady of the Raheny Club in Dublin finished in first place at this year’s full marathon in 2 hours, 23 minutes and 15 seconds.
While first woman went to Nicola Casey of Sligo finished in 3 hours, 10 minutes and 5 seconds.
The half marathon was won by Alexander Wallace of Scotland who in 2024 took home the gold in the 26 miles event.
Wallace finished in 1 hour, 10 minutes and 22 seconds.
While first woman in the half marathon was claimed by Una O’Brien in 1 hour and 29 minutes and 37 seconds.
Andrew Connick took home the gold in the 10km event in a time of 33 minutes and 15 seconds.
First woman in the quarter marathon was Emma Leahy with a time of 39 minutes and 50 seconds.
Liam Holden won the inaugural disability friendly run in a time of 1 hour, 15 minutes and 38 seconds.
While Grainne Walsh was first woman in the disability friendly run, completing the route in 1 hour 21 minutes and 38 seconds.
Thousands took to the streets to cheer on and encourage friends, family and strangers on Sunday on what was a thoroughly successful day in the south-east.
