Emergency services responded to a call in Newtown Cove, Tramore yesterday at approximately 3.35pm.

A man, reported as unconscious, was in the water when he got into difficulty.

Emergency services were called including the Irish Coast Guard, however in the meantime, a group of swimmers rescued the man from the water.

Those present  in Tramore told WLR that without the actions of those swimmers, the man would have been carried out to sea.

The man was conscious at the scene when emergency services arrived, and he was transported to University Hospital Waterford for assessment.
